Upcoming Events at The Old Print Gallery

“Su-Li Hung & Richard Sloat: 40 Years Together in Art” closes on Saturday

This is the last weekend to see our current exhibit 40 Years Together in Art. The show will be on view until this Saturday, November 10. Our gallery hours today and tomorrow are from 10am to 5:20pm.

Su-Li Hung and Richard Sloat met at the Art Students League in 1971, and married the following year. Now, forty years later, The Old Print Gallery celebrates their creative partnership with a retrospective of each artist’s work. Although their printmaking emerges from two very distinct styles, the show’s sweeping assessment of their art reveals glimpses of related motifs, colors, and textures, as well as shared moments of inspiration.

Philip Bennet’s “Retrospective 1942-2012” on view now at Glenview Mansion Gallery

The Glenview Mansion Gallery, Rockville Civic Center, is presenting an 70 year retrospective of works by Philip Bennet (a printmaker represented by OPG). The show features paintings and monotype prints, including a watercolor painted at age 12, a self-portrait in oil painted at age 13, and over 25 other works in pastel, acrylics, watercolor, collage, and monotypes. Retrospective 1942-2012 runs from November 1 through November 27, 2012.

In his early years, Bennet painted realistic landscape and seascape watercolors and pastels, while filling his sketch books with pen and ink drawings during his travels. He then gravitated to abstract images, and now paints primarily abstracts. Bennet states that “the start of some of my abstracts seems like chaos but by intuitively adding, deleting, and changing lines, marks and shapes, some order is restored.”

Glenview Mansion Gallery is located at 603 Edmonston Drive, Rockville, MD. Gallery hours: Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9am to 4:30pm. Tuesday, Thursday: 9am-9pm. Closed on all major holidays. Call (240) 314-5004 for recorded directions.
