Early 20th Century, Engraving, Etching, Past/Present, Wood

Past/Present: Chelsea

Stumbled across the two beautiful prints of Chelsea- made almost half a century apart- by Joseph Pennel (1857-1926) and John De Pol ( 1913-2004). A self taught artist, De Pol used to pour over etching and printmaking books at the Greenwich branch of The New York Public Library. Joseph Pennel’s Etchers and Etchings (1924) was one of De Pol’s first introductions to the technique , a book he purchased and kept with him until his death.
