Today we have a new P/P post, featuring two prints of baseball stadiums. The older print was published in Harper’s Weekly, New York, Aug. 31, 1889. It is a wood engraving, with a view of a baseball game in progress from the stands behind home plate. The contemporary print is by New York City artist Su-Li Hung. Both a painter and a printmaker, Hung relies on color and simple forms to make strong visual statements. Here, Hung’s use of vast white space is disrupted only by the soaring red baseball- suggestive of a strong hitter, a home run, yet simple enough that it invites the viewer to imagine their own visual narrative ( and their favorite team).
